How to Get Your Brand Colors on Instagram Stories and Reels Text

Instagram has text colors to choose from when creating reels and stories, but you can also add your own custom colors. This is a great feature to promote brand recognition on stories and reels. Here's how you can select custom colors on Instagram, plus a free color palette template for Canva to make it even easier! 

Before You Begin

Make sure you have an image in your camera roll with your brand colors. You can download our free brand color palette template for Canva and add your brand colors. I recommend creating an album on your phone where you keep all your brand colors, logos and other images you need for Instagram so they're easy to find.

How to Select Custom Colors on Instagram Reels

Create your reel and add your text. With your reel open in editing mode, switch over to your camera roll and copy the image with your brand colors. (On an iphone, tap the icon in the bottom left corner that looks like a square with an arrow pointing up. This gives you a pop up menu with the option to copy the image).

Switch back to your reel and you'll see your image pop up in the bottom left corner with the option to "add sticker". Tap it. 

This adds the image to your reel, you can now go back to your text and use the color picker (eyedropper tool) to select a color from your image for your text.

When you're done, drag the image you used with your brand colors to the trash.

How to Select Custom Colors on Instagram Stories

Add your story clip and add your text. Choose the sticker icon on the top right menu in Instagram (looks like a square with rounded corners with a smiley face on it).

Scroll down and find the camera roll option (circle with a photo icon of mountains with your image behind it). Tap this, and select the image with your brand colors. This adds the image to your story.

Tap on your text and use the color dropper to change the text color. Drag the image to the trash when you're done.
